We did it again, just like we do every month!
Another Leadership Coaching session is in the books.
This one last Friday was all about Crafting Compelling Messages.
We covered how to clarify your message, tap into story and emotion, and get people to actually care, remember, and act.

Here’s a little insight.
A little story.
And a big ol’ formula that’s helped me for decades.
When I build a talk, write an email, plan a lesson, or craft a pitch, I don’t go start-to-finish in one sitting.
I start fast. Then I finish slow.
I give the project room to marinate. (As my friend Laura says, it gets better when it soaks.)
This helps me be productive and creative.
Because when something’s “done,” your brain moves on. But when it’s unfinished, it simmers in the background. That’s when the best ideas sneak in.
Now, let’s talk about the actual formula I shared in the session:
The 8 Steps I Use to Craft Compelling Messages
- Outline the main points. No overthinking. Just drop the shell.
- Write it out without editing. Let it rip. Edits at this stage kill flow.
- Check it for clarity. Would this make sense to someone who doesn’t know what I know?
- Add examples. Stories, analogies, contrasts, and whatever brings the message to life.
- Succinct it. (Yes, I made that a verb.) Say more with less without losing meaning or impact.
- Evaluate for motion and emotion. What do I want the audience to feel or do?
- (a) Talk it out if it’s a speech.
(b) Edit it if it’s long form (workbook, blog post, etc.). - Take a final pass. One more sweep makes a big difference.
