1. Networking is an all-the-time, proactive, long-term effort. It’s not about one perfect moment. It’s about consistency over time. A solid network is built brick by brick. It’s built deliberately and with direction. Start with a clear map: “Who do I need to know, and how do I get there?”

2. Give first and give more. The best way to open doors is to offer value upfront. Come to each conversation with something to give whether it’s insight, support, or connection. Ask second. Give first.

3. It’s a live, energy-expending effort.Emails and DMs are fine for logistics. But relationships are built in real time. Call. Meet. Zoom. Real relationships require real energy and the willingness to go first.

4. Trust-building is the backbone of great networking. Follow through, follow up, and be specific. Use my “I will by via” formula: What you’ll do, by when, and how you’ll confirm. Trust is built through clarity and consistency.

5. Networking expands everyone’s reach. Your job isn’t just to build your network—it’s to help others grow theirs. Make thoughtful introductions. Think beyond yourself. The best networkers are the best connectors.

Bonus: Use a system. Keep it organized. Build a relationship map, use calendar nudges, keep templates handy, and track the “gifts” you like to share such as books, articles, insights. Systems make generosity and consistency easy.
