Found a company and director position I wanted badly, applied, interviewed, made it to the final cut and didn’t get the offer. I know they like me a lot as both the COO and CEO told me so in interviews. The COO told me other positions will be arising soon as they are in expansion mode. I’m not sure a position below director will work for me coupled with the fact I don’t even know if the director position would have paid enough. There was no advertised salary and no way to research what they pay as they are small and new on the scene. In interviewing, I was asked for salary expectation and like you advise I said I’m sure we can decide on a mutually agreeable compensation later in the process. I’m continuing to interact with this company as I really believe in their mission and am actually helping them expand through referrals to some key contacts I have. I want to stay on their radar as the first person they call when a new position arises. My question– would it not be ok at this point to ask my contact, the COO what is the salary range of possible expansion positions? I don’t want to devote time and emotional energy into pursuing other roles if they are not even in the ballpark of my expectations.
